Democratizing Technology: The Confluence of Makers and Grassroot Innovators

This is the second research collaboration I had with Anna Waldman-Brown and Juliet Wanyiri. The first was on Current Trends in the African Maker Movement. Other authors on this study  were Tim Chege ( RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia) and Marian Muthui ( Fab Lab Nairobi, now MIT Media Lab).

The study focused on interactions between the Maker Movement and grassroot innovator/informal sector both in Africa and globally. Case studies presented were from locations including Ghana, Uganda and Kenya.

As co-author, I focused on Vocational Training and recommendations for carrying it out properly.

A paper from the study was presented at the 3rd International Conference on Creativity and Innovations at Grassroots (ICCIG), Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad 2015.

The paper can be found here.
